Job Description
Duration: 6-12 Months Contract
Title: System Engineer
Location: Chicago, IL
As a member of the Production Services Support Team, the Client Engineer (CE) is required to provide day-to-day support and maintenance of Client based hardware, operating systems (Windows 2003, Windows XP), System Applications (MS SQL, MOM WSUS, SMS, etc.) and Enterprise Solutions (AD, VB Scripting, Backup, etc.) Other responsibilities will include, project management and resource management/escalation. In addition, the CE should stay abreast of current and new technology as it relates to their role, as well as, assist with testing and QA related issues to ensure a high quality of service.
Specific Systems Responsibilities:
Primary Support:
· Active Directory (including scripting) Administration
· Windows 2003
Secondary Support:
· System Deployment (RDP)
· Antivirus (SAV)
Tertiary Support:
· Performance Tuning
Profile Requirements:
· Strong organization and communication skills; must clearly communicate Wintel related technical issues with customer/clients and management.
· In depth understanding of Operating Systems including how they interact and utilize hardware platforms…
· 5+ years of Information Technology (IT) experience supporting Enterprise Class Servers in a heterogeneous environment.
· Working knowledge of TCP/IP.
· Skilled in troubleshooting in high pressure, production environments.
· Event log monitoring and perform skills.
· MCSE Certification preferred.
· Must possess VB Script or Power Shell scripting skills.
· Other technical certifications are a plus.
· Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
· Previous trading experience preferred or equivalent high speed, high-pressure environments a plus.
· Must be able to think quickly and outside the box.
· Must be accustomed to responding quickly and in a controlled manner to emergencies.
· Will be required to work late and on weekends when needed by management.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Follow strict Change Management policies regarding productions changes (ITIL)
· Must take part in Change Management (CM) meetings as necessary.
· Follow proper Incident Management and Problem Management policies and assist in the creation and closure of incidents, including incident reporting.
· When assigned tasks, they will be required to continue working on the task through completion, or until the task is properly transferred to a co-worker.
· Assists in the daily and pro-active maintenance of Windows infrastructure environment.
· Must validate backups can be retrieved and restored.
· Follow strict Systems reboot policy.
· Follow strict Systems patching policy.
· Follow pre-deployment checklist.
· Is required to have all Systems security scanned before release to production.
· Is required to install only Client approved software on Systems.
· Is required to baseline Systems before deployment and provide monthly reports on current performance.
· Assists in the daily monitoring servers/systems and respond quickly to alerts.
· Must assume ownership of issues and work issues until completion, unless changed by management.
· Rotate an on-call schedule with co-workers.
· While on-call, CE is required to carry a laptop and Blackberry/Cell phone. Response time must be within 15 minutes to alerts.
· Is required to follow proper escalation procedures as defined by management.
· Is required to attend knowledge transfer sessions as necessary as well as facilitate knowledge transfer to other co-workers.
· Must take part in strategic and tactical weekly meetings as necessary.
· Must complete or update operational run books as required regarding new server builds or production changes in general.
· Is required to assist in updating the master server list, backup schedule, morning checklist, and cross-departmental communications, etc.
· Is required to follow proper quality assurance procedures regarding releasing anything into production.
· Assigned as the primary technical support resource or the secondary technical support resource for specific servers/systems. As the primary technical support resource, expert knowledge is expected. As the secondary technical support resource, general working knowledge is expected.
· CE will have the opportunity to learn other technologies to further their technical and career growth, only after they are at an expert level for their primary support roles.

· MS Clustering – multi-Node
· Active Directory (Migrations from NT 4 a plus)
· Group Policy Administration

· SIM – Deployments
· MOM – Monitoring
· Deployment Systems - HP RDP
· Virtual Technology – VMware
· Servers Supported – 50+
· Exchange: 5.5, 2000, 2003
· IIS: 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0
· IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, Arc serve, or Net Backup
· VB Script for Administrators or Power Shell Scripting
Other Responsibilities:
· Must be punctual based on service level agreements and staff schedule. Required to communicate with management if they are going to be late for more than 10 minutes.
· Establishes a cordial and professional working relationship with other team members.
